How To Style & Rock Layers!

Helloooo friends! Today’s blog post is a long time requested post. If you follow me on Instagram then you have seen me wear layers religiously! I am obsessed with playing around with the different textures, colors and patterns. You can get really creative with various pieces that you already have in your closet. I’m going to show you a few styles of layering with pieces that I love.

You don’t have to be a professional to style layers! You just have to have fun, that’s all! I will however, give you a few starter tips.

1. Start with a light piece such as a patterned button down or a blouse that has dimension.
2. Layer a sweater with texture or a thin, larger sweater.
3. Tie a knot in the front of the sweater to give it more dimension (if you want of course).

Again, you don’t need to be an expert. I love playing around and just having fun with it. That’s what fashion should be (there are no rules in my opinion). The great thing about styling with layers, is that your options are endless! You can swap tops and sweaters out to get different looks. This is great if you are traveling! It saves you A LOT of packing space. 😉

Here are 3 ways I styled layered pieces.

First look is a pattern button down (from ThredUp). I love the stripes on this top and love wearing it alone. The other day, I was picking out my outfit for work the next morning and thought, “this would be so cute under a sweater!”  This shirt has pattern and length to it so I paired it with a longer sweater and tied a knot in the side to give it more personality. I love the way the blouse comes out at the bottom!  stripe blouseLayering Sweaterknot tied sweater knot tied sweaterSecond look is a marled knit sweater that is a bit on the shorter side and a loose peplum blouse. (Both from H&M). This type of sweater is great to layer with! I have to admit, this one is my go-to with any layering outfit. (I might wear it too much). The flare from the blouse under the sweater is the perfect touch and I adore the color combo.  Peplum Blouse layer a sweater sweater layering sweater layering

Third look is an oversized sweater over a basic stripe button down! This is really simple. I’m sure many of you have a basic button down with stripes. (Especially if you work in any office setting). Both of these are from H&M too! Can you tell I’m obsessed with the retail store? LOL! So I really love this sweater because it has two deep slits on the side. This reveals the blouse that you’re wearing underneath, exposing the color and giving more dimension. I love this look because I felt very “artsy” I think I just need a cute pair of glasses!

There you have it! See, layering is super easy and SO MUCH FUN! It’s my favorite style during the fall and winter. I will link sweaters and tops at the bottom of this post if you are feeling spontaneous. These are easy to style, given the material and length. I hope you get inspired by this post and go straight to your closet to pick out your next layered outfit! Remember, there are no rules in fashion so have fun and release your creative side!

Two Ways to Layer a Dress for Fall

How to Layer a Dress- Velvet Slip Dress

How to Layer a Dress- Suede Halter Dress

Happy Monday ya’ll! I thought I would treat you to a pick me up in case you weren’t having a great start to your week. I’m a girl who is obsessed with layers. I don’t know if you have noticed but it’s trending to layer dresses and tees. I’m loving this look. It’s bold, edgy and it is the perfect way to transition your favorite summer dresses into fall without breaking the bank. I’m sharing TWO ways to style two different dresses.

I got this really cute velvet (making a comeback) dress from Rue 21 for NYE this past year for around $20 and paired it with a polka dot top that I thrifted for $5. You can easily pair this with some cute black ankle booties, like these I bought from Charlotte Russe last fall, to dress it up. They’re ALWAYS great at running specials, like BOGO. I got these and another pair of plain taupe booties for $15 each. Throw on a cute hat or just stick with a layer necklace and honey, you look chic AF.

For a more casual look. I took my favorite suede dress from BohoBlu and threw a plain grey tee under for an effortless, ready for brunch look. I got the tee at a thrift store for $2 & the dress for $34. Put on your favorite pair of sneakers and you’re ready to go. Mine are from Nordstrom for $40.

I hope you guys enjoyed these two looks and it inspires you to run to your closet and throw some pieces together! I linked similar items to what I have for what I would consider affordable. Tag me in your layered dresses on Instagram, I love seeing what you guys put together!
